Pistons fire Curry
Basketball Betting Lines
06/30/2009 - Auburn Hills, MI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Detroit Pistons president of basketball operations Joe Dumars did an about face Tuesday and fired head coach Michael Curry.
"This was a difficult decision to make," Dumars said in a statement released by the team. "I want to thank Michael for his hard work and dedication to the organization. However, at this time, I have decided to make a change."
Dumars had held a press conference in late April to confirm that Curry would return to the Motor City in 2009-10, despite a disappointing first season as the team's mentor.
In his first year directing the perennial championship contenders, Curry led the Pistons to a 39-43 record, good for the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Detroit was quickly swept in the first round of the playoffs by the top-seeded Cavaliers, who won each game by double digits. The swift exit halted the Pistons' streak of six straight trips to the East finals.
Many of the team's problems could be traced back to the trade that sent franchise point guard Chauncey Billups and two other players to Denver early last season for Allen Iverson. Iverson, a former MVP, never fit in with Detroit's vaunted balance, defensive prowess and chemistry.
Curry, the former president of the NBA Players Association, took over for Flip Saunders, who was fired after the 2007-08 season despite making three consecutive conference Eastern Conference finals appearances.
In addition, Curry also served one season in Detroit as an assistant coach under Saunders (2007-08) and had two separate stints with the organization as a player (1995-97 and 1999-2003).

Super Bowl XLIII Betting - Super Bowl 2009
Super Bowl 2009, the Arizona Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Steelers.Let’s take a look at the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds and the betting line and figure out where they’ve been and where they are going to go.
MySportsbook.com put up the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds late on Sunday night with the Pittsburgh Steelers favored by 6.5 points and a total betting line at 47.5 points.
Since then, however, the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds have seen a good deal of movement and you’ll want to be on top of where they are likely to move to make sure you get the best line value for the big game.
Since opening, the Super Bowl 2009 betting lines went to Steelers -7 in the span of roughly 3 hours but were quickly bought back down just minutes later to 6.5 again.
After that is took about 5-6 more hours before the betting line went back to -7 where it has sat for a while now and is likely to remain. The opening betting total of 47.5 was bet down right after the line became available and went to 47 within minutes.
Roughly a day later it has been bet even further down to the 46.5 tally it currently is set at.
Roughly 60% of gamblers seem to be on the Cardinals here so the point spread will be bet down and a 7.5 would not last very long at all with many taking the early 6.5 in hopes of finding a potential middle in the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds.
If you like Arizona and see a 7.5, I’d take it as soon as possible because it’s unlikely to last. For Pittsburgh backers, the -7 might be the best you’ll be able to find but a 6.5 is definitely possible close to game time.
Regarding the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds for the total, most tracked gamblers are already on the over and with those who took the under 47.5 already securing a middle on the over 46.5, the only way I see it moving is back up to 47 so if you like the over, I’d recommend betting now.

El Duque expected to throw Tuesday
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- New York Mets pitcher Orlando Hernandez, sidelined at spring training because of arthritis in his neck, is expected to resume throwing on Tuesday.
Hernandez received a cortisone shot Thursday after leaving camp and returning to New York to have his neck examined. The 41-year-old right-hander is penciled in as the team's No. 2 starter behind Tom Glavine.
El Duque's health is a major issue for the Mets, who won the NL East in 2007 and came within one victory of the World Series. Their aging and unsettled rotation is a big question mark this year.
MySportsbook.com has the Mets as -110 favorites to repeat as NL East champions odds.
Hernandez went 11-11 with a 4.66 ERA last season, including 9-7 with a 4.09 ERA in 20 starts after the Mets acquired him from Arizona in late May. But he missed the playoffs because of a torn calf muscle.
New York already is without Pedro Martinez, out until at least midseason following rotator cuff surgery. Among those competing for starting jobs are prospects Mike Pelfrey, Philip Humber and Jason Vargas, plus veterans Chan Ho Park, Jorge Sosa and Aaron Sele.
Notes: Mets manager Willie Randolph is excited about two new utility players he could have on his bench: Damion Easley and David Newhan. ''Their value is really all over the place,'' Randolph said. Easley can play anywhere in the infield and could be used as an emergency outfielder, though Randolph said he would prefer to keep the veteran in the infield. Newhan, meanwhile, can play second base, third or any outfield position for the Mets. ''I love versatility,'' Randolph said. ''I love guys that can give me options when I need them to step in.''
