Nova won 16 games and pitched to a 3.70 ERA for the Yankees despite a stint in the minors and won his final 12 decisions, which included an eight-game winning streak. Pineda, meanwhile, was an All-Star and ended the year with a 3.74 ERA, but seemed to run out of steam in the second half. AL ROOKIE: ERIC HOSMER, KANSAS CITY Los Angeles' Mark Trumbo seems to be the favorite here, but I'm leaning towards my preseason pick of Eric Hosmer, the Kansas City Royals first baseman. Hosmer came up in early May and immediately made an impact. He swatted 19 home runs while driving in 78 runs and finishing first among AL rookies in runs (66) and hits (153). He also collected 27 doubles, making him the 27th

"Without Greg Hamilton and the rest of the staff, we would have never had the chance to accomplish such a feat," said Tim Smith, an integral part of the offense and member of the Kansas City Royals organization. Hamilton is the director of the national teams, and is widely regarded as one of the most influential Canadians in baseball. Anyone who speaks of him showers him with praise and acknowledges his undeniable dedication to the pr

In 2010, the native of Puerto Rico went 13-9 with a 3.07 ERA in 34 games (33 starts) as San Francisco won the World Series. In 174 games -- 118

The 45-year-old Eiland, who replaces Bob McClure, spent the past season as a special assistant to Andrew Friedman, Tampa Bay's executive vice president of baseball operations. "We are delighted to have Dave join our coaching staff," Royals general manager Dayton Moore said. "He is an extremely talented pitching coach and a proven winner who has the ability to relate to the young pitchers who a

ne? So where do the Red Sox go from here? My guess is Theo Epstein scours the bench coach market and tries to unearth a diamond in the rough to show how much smarter he is than everyone else. Think Los Angeles Dodgers bench coach and former Kansas City Royals skipper Trey Hillman. Or Philadelphia's Pete Mackanin. Francona, meanwhile, will be fine. He will be out of work for about a minute. Don't bet against him taking over for Ozzie Guillen in Chicago, where his laid-back approach would be a wel
